I've observed PowerPoint 2008 crashing when trying to print a presentation (20 or so slides) to a real printer, to PDF (via Apple's PDF generation) and to temporary PDF for Preview to display. In general, shorter files print okay, but there seems to be a threshold around 10 pages where it crashes more often than not.
Mac OS X 10.5.4, PowerPoint 2008 12.1.3. Have tried different printers, different models of printers (Lexmark, Canon, etc).
It's not 100% - probably 90% of the time with a particular file. If the wind is blowing the right direction, it may get all the way through.
However, PowerPoint 2004 on the same computer, same file, same print options, same printer, same print driver is able to do the job.
Likewise, I've seen similar with Word 2008 crashing during attempts to print, when Word 2004 prints just fine - again, to real printer, PDF and Preview PDF.
