Melba's Jammin'
Help! My husband just switched from Windows to Mac ‹ I'd promised him
he wouldn't have to use so many bad words if he did. Mostly, his
language has improved but there are at least a couple differences
between PP for Windows and PP for Mac that have us both flummoxed.
Today's question is about the "Save" dialog box when saving a document
file.
I have put a couple screenshots on my web site in case my description
isn't so hot. The link to my site is <http://web.me.com/barbschaller>
then navigate to the blahblahblog on the menu.
***Please note that the following text is copied from my web page, the
question directed to Jim Gordon.*** (But I'd be happy to hear
from anyone with a good answer.
"Jim, these screenshots show the difference in the Save boxes for
PowerPoint 2004 for Mac (the version I currently have on my iBook G4, OS
10.4.11) and PowerPoint 2008 for Mac (the latest version, on my
just-switched-to-Mac-husband¹s one-month-old-MacBook Pro <OS 10.6>)
Can we get the dialog box in PP 2008 to look like the one in PP 2004?
I.e., to have the ability to save a file exactly where we want it saved
(by navigating through the column view as shown in the first picture
below). Is that possible and how can it be done. I¹ve looked in a book
called Office 2008 for Mac (All-in-one) for Dummies and am coming up
dry. The PowerPoint Help file has been of no help‹maybe I¹m using the
wrong words in my search string.
Maybe it can¹t be done.

Screenshot, PowerPoint 2008 for Mac Save diaglog box:
It appears that if we want to save a file to a specific folder within
the Documents folder, it has to be done indirectly; i.e., the file must
be saved either to the Desktop, Home folder, or Documents folder (in the
Home folder) and then must be dragged to the specific folder desired.
That is an awkward process that did not exist in PP 2004 for Mac; have
we missed a Preference setting somewhere? Has that (sensible) feature
been eliminated?
I¹ll be posting this to microsoft.public.mac.office.powerpoint, too, and
I wanted to have the screenshots available in case my description of the
problem isn¹t clear.
We appreciate your help.
Thanks,
-Barb Schaller"
