Powerpoint and IE compatibility

IE 5.5 doesn't open ppt files correctly. When clicking on
the link to a ppt, the status bar indicates that the file
is downloaded. But then nothing happens??

the link to a ppt, the status bar indicates that the file
is downloaded. But then nothing happens??

Browsers don't open PPT files at all.

They may open the PowerPoint viewer or PowerPoint itself in a browser window
and have one of those apps display the presentation. You haven't mentioned
whether one of those is installed on your computer; if not, that could be
the problem right there.

Otherwise, your browser settings may prevent it from launching application
files, so it downloads the PPT and leaves it up to you to start the
presentation.
