Powerpoint and Nokia conflict

I have a strange conflict Powerpoint (Office 2002) fails to start when Nokia
PC Suite (version 6.6.18) is installed.
The moment I uninstall Nokia PC Suite, powerpoint is back to normal again!

Strange to say the least - Word and Excel continue to work just fine, while
powerpoint fails to start, then tries to start in safe mode, then prompts you
to try "Detect and Repair" - all of which result in no success whatsoever.

I've been using MS Office and Nokia PC Suite for a few years now, and for
all hte latter software's bugs and crudities, this is one problem that I
havent ever faced before. I USED to work on Office 2003 - no problems there -
so one possibility is that there is a conflict with only the 2002 version.
There is no reference to this on Microsoft's and Nokia's sites.

Anyone else faced this? Any suggestions will be hugely appreciated, because
the problem is driving me insane?

regards

PS: When Nokia Suite is installed, it adds some items to the startup list -
Datalayer.exe, Servicelayer.exe and trayapp.exe I think. Wonder if they have
anything to do with it?

I'd be inclined to see if Nokia's suite adds any add-ins to PPT. You can
search your PC for *.PPA files -- if you find any, rename them *.OLD and try
to start PPT again. (Make sure PPT's not open when you go renaming add-ins!)
If PPT opens without problems, you can rename the OLD files back to PPA
until you find the culprit.

Fair point. Unfortunately I couldnt find even one .ppa on my computer... so
that cant be it I guess.

Hm. You might check How to disable add-ins
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00324.htm -- chances are, there's really
nothing around, but it won't hurt to double-check.

You might also want to go to Start|Run and type msconfig to disable the
startup items the Nokia Suite adds. It will be a good test to see if any of
those are actually what's causing the problem.

FWIW, I haven't heard anything about this particular conflict. You might
have to call the support line for Nokia. I'd think they'd know it if their
program conflicts with something as ubiquitous as MS Office.

Nope no ppa's in registry either.
I'll try knocking the nokia stuff off the startup list and see...
thanks

Oh and you're right; its wierd that nobody else seems to have this problem -
at least I havent seen even one post about it anywhere - ubiquity or not

Well knocking off nokia startup items doesnt work either. Powerpoint refuses
to start until Nokia PC Suite is completely uninstalled.
