PowerPoint and Word 2000 on Windows 2000

I am developing a program in PowerPoint that displays the open file
dialog box in Word for the user to select a Word file, search the Word
document and put some records in a file. Then the program switches to
PowerPoint where the PowerPoint open dialog box displays for the user
to select a PowerPoint file to open. This all works fine, however,
after the PowerPoint file is selected and the program stops, the
PowerPoint file does not open, nor do I receive an error. It appears
the program gets the file, but doesn't open it. What can I do to get
the PowerPoint file to open?
