Powerpoint behaves differently when launched via hyperlink

Hi

I have now managed to get my AddIn working with Word when launched from
hyperlink. Thanks to Peter and Microsoft support for this.

I am left with a problem with PowerPoint that may not be directly related to
the AddIn but that needs resolving.
If I use Windows explorer to double click and open a 'ppt' file, PowerPoint
fires up and opens the presentation in 'edit' mode.
If I use a hyperlink to open that references the same file to open it,
PowerPoint fires up in presentation display mode.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Hi Keith,

I think this is by design.
Because the PPT application is mainly used to edit the PPT file, while in
the IE, it is mostly used for Show.

Anyway, what is your concern now?
Do you want to make the PPT opened in PowerPoint Application and in Show
Mode directly
or
make the PPT open in IE in Edit Mode directly?

If you have other concern, please feel free to post here.

BTW: Did the PPT file have a PPA(PowerPoint Addin) or Com-Addin?

Best regards,

Peter Huang

Yes the last, I would like a ppt document launched from a hyperlink in IE to
fire up Powerpoint separately with the document loaded in edit mode.

Note that in the File associations, we have 'Browse in Same window' unticked
in order to get IE to launch powerpoint standalone.

If you have other concern, please feel free to post here.

It is a COM addIn.

Thanks

Hi Kevin,

Based on my research, you may try to add a registry key per the KB below to
open it in Edit mode.
299824 Open PowerPoint presentation in different modes in Web browser

Any developments?

To summarise:

If I have a hyperlink in Internet Explore to a 'ppt' file, when I click the
link I want Powerpoint to open separateyl with the document in Edit mode.
Is this possible?

It is a COM add In.

Thanks
