PowerPoint breaks Word sound feedback

Using Office 2004, each time I play a .pps file that opens PowerPoint,
this causes my Provide Feedback with Sound preference In Word, and the
sound preference in PowerPoint, to become unchecked. I then have to
close PowerPoint, then reopen PowerPoint, check Provide Feedback with
Sound to Screen Elements in Preferences, and then go return to Word
and check the Provide Feedback with Sound in Preferences.

This has gotten so annoying that I often avoid opening .pps files.

None, I'm afraid. This bug has been around for a number of years now, and no
update has ever fixed this issue. It annoyed me so much at some point that I
decided to switch off the sounds altogether, and after all these years, I
can't really say that I miss them, to be honest. However, you could let
Microsoft know by clicking on "Send Feedback on [Word/PowerPoint]" in Word
or PowerPoint's help menu. You've written quite a detailed series of steps
which should allow some people at the MacBU to reproduce it and, hopefully,
even fix it.
