Powerpoint can't open .ppt file

I've been editing and saving this file for several days. This morning I made
several changes, and saved the file exactly as I've been doing all the time.
Then I exited Powerpoint, did some other work, and now when I try to reopen
the file, I get this message:
"Powerpoint can't read myfile.ppt"

Most of the editing was done with Version 2003, SP3. I also did some
editing with Powerpoint 2007 on a different computer, and did the last save
with 2007.
Both programs respond "Powerpoint can't read myfile.ppt"
Both programs have no trouble opening other .ppt files that are in the same
folder, or in other folders.
Myfile.ppt is not very large, only 1400 KB.

It seems clear that the file is somehow corrupted; is there any way to get
into it, to find out what's wrong, and to fix it?

Thanks very much for any help you can give,
Tom

What Echo said, and, if you are still using 2003, make sure that you
have all the service packs installed. Go the Help menu and choose Check
for Updates. Service Pack 1 fixes some similar issues that PowerPoint
2003 had.

Try opening a new, blank presentation and using Insert | Slides | From File.

If you edited in 2007, did you save the file as a PPTX (2007 format) or as a
97-2003 format PPT file? If the former, then you may need to install the
compatibility pack that allows Office 2003 to read 2007 format files. It's
