Powerpoint can't read file

E

Ed Gifford

Office XP application can not open files.
They can create and save, but can not read again.
ERRORS:
Word: "The file xxx is not available.
Excel: "Unable to read file."
PPT: "Powerpoint can't read xxx"
I have reinstalled Office XP, no luck.
I have downloaded latest patches, no luck.
All other applications work fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
PS. I believe it is a registry problem, lost key or
deleted key file, best guess only.
Thanks!

Since your Word and Excel files are affected, too, this obviously isn't just
a PPT problem.

Bet you're using Norton AntiVirus, aren't you? They had a few problems
yesterday.

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2003081411062739
from Symantec suggests turning off certificates in IE.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q320365
describes how to disable the Office plug-in (which you should do anyway,
as far as I'm concerned). It's a PPT kb article, but the instructions
for disabling the plug-in are good.

Interesting
I wonder if that explains why my home computer was running like a slug last night
It took several minutes for Word to open, but there was little CPU activity.
