Powerpoint changes file modification date when opened, but not cha

I have Microsoft Powerpoint 2008 for Mac.

I generally like the product -- HOWEVER, a huge issue is that every time I
open a file, even just to look at it, the "Date Modified" changes. This is
completely messing up file organization -- as it's making it impossible to
look back by date for a file in the past. Once I've opened it, it becomes
current.

This should have been fixed in the last update -- why not?

I'm afraid we have no more idea "why not?" than you do. Nobody here - in
general - has anything to do with designing/revising MS software... We're
just users of the product like everyone else :)

The best direct approach to MS is to use Help> Send Feedback & add your
comments to those who have already done so. Enough complaints will draw the
attention of those who can do something about the problem.

I CAN'T believe that you won't fix this for me.... :>)

You made a great suggestion -- I just put feedback in on www.mactopia.com.

I am hoping that Microsoft lurks in this site to get a sense for
issues/suggestions -- hence my post. Also, I think it's worth potential
issues to be aware of this issue.

I can't believe they default to this functionality -- I presume it's a bug
that they overlooked. It makes it very disconcerting to use.

Thank you for replying. Hopefully, they'll fix this very annoying bug.

Hey, wait your turn. Bob can't even BEGIN to start not fixing your problems
until he's done not fixing mine. And he tells me there are quite a few ahead of
me. Wanna not hold our breath together?

If you're waiting for Bob to fix *anything* you'd better start not holding
your breath a long time ago ;-)

Though keeping me breathless, I'm finding these empty promises of action to
be far more satisfying than the empty actions by Microsoft, no matter how
promising.

Thank you everyone for making me feel heard, if even in perhaps a
meaningless way.

All joking aside, please DO use Help, Send Feedback to send this request to MS.
They do listen but it takes votes to get their attention.

Absolutely brilliant, microsoft:

Thank you for requesting support for Microsoft PowerPoint 2008 for MAC. My
name is Rej and I will be working with you to resolve this issue.

The modified date changes to the present time and date when it is opened.

This is default behavior of the Apple Operating System. It will date stamp
any folder or document when it is opened as the last modified date. As stated
this is default behavior of the Apple OS, and not a part of the Office
programs.

Please let me know if this answers your question.

Thank you for using Microsoft Technical Support,
