PowerPoint crash on start-up

Hi
PowerPoint seemingly immediately crashes on start up. The "P" bounces up and
down in a rather erratic manner..! The other parts of the Office suite seem
to be OK.

OS: Mac X version 10.3.9 (build 7W98) though this has happened since 10.1

Crash Dump Report says that there has been a "protection failure"
(?segmentation violation) in Kernel space at address 2

Does anyone know if this is a known problem and is there a patch to fix it?

I would be grateful for any help with this.

Cheers

Bill

I had a problem with PPT crashing; it was due to fonts not loading properly.
