Hi,

Very simple, I can create and save my own custom Theme Color but I can no way of doing the same for a Theme Font.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks,

Annoyed and then some...

Hi,

The term "theme" is used a little bit loosely in Office 2008. The
ambiguousness is a little troublesome to me.

The way I understand "theme" is that it is a color scheme and certain
attributes about objects, such as WordArt, hyperlinks and drawing objects.

The way I understand "style" is that style concerns fonts.

The terminology gets mish-mashed, however. On the formatting palette
click the disclosure triangle for "Document Theme." There you'll find
you can select a font to go with your theme.

I'm not really up to speed on this either ... check with Echo or Julie in the Win group
for more info; they're the closest thing we have to Theme Godesses.

Or if you're set up to run Win apps, there's a theme editing tool from MS that you can
use to edit themes and save them as new ones. If nothing else, it gives you a pretty
decent idea what's inside a theme. Or for the truly gritty, you can alwasys dive into
the naked theme XML files.

I'm not sure of the exact terminology, but a theme (as exposed by the MS theme editor)
can include color, font and effects specifications. Each of these three spec sets can
be stored in its own file, so you can apply an overall theme, then if you like, apply
font, color or effects schemes.

Unfortunately designing Custom Themes in Mac PPt hasn't been as fully
implemented as it has in the Windows counterpart. Font Themes can't be added
to or modified in 2008 as they can in 2007.

If you want to include font specs you'll have to do so in the Masters, then
resave your Theme. If you want the same Theme Colors but also want font
variations I'm afraid you'll either have to create multiple Themes, use the
Format> Replace Fonts command, or devise a workaround of your own.

Hi all,

It's not possible to create a Theme Font in Office 2008 (though you can create a Theme Colour via Excel). Yet more settings that have not been properly implemented by Microsoft.

In the end, I just modified the XML files, simple and straightforward.

Cheers all.

Hi everyone,

Can I persuade you to try creating a custom theme and then saving it?

Start with a blank presentation
View > Master > Slide Master
Make modifications as desired
View > Normal

On the Formatting palette there's a section called Document Theme
Click the Save Theme button
Give the theme a name and save it to one of the folders (or make your
own folder)

Done!

If you save the theme into a folder, you can later click the Browse
button on the Formatting palette to apply the theme to any presentation.

If you save themes at the folder level (instead of inside the folders),
those themes become available on the Custom Themes section of the
Elements Gallery. Themes saved within folders are available in the My
Themes portion of the Project Gallery. You might expect both places to
display all your custom themes, but that isn't how it works.

These theme files have .thmx file extensions.

You'll find your saved themes here:
User:Library:Application Support:Microsoft:Office:User Themes:My Themes:...

The default organization of the folders implies that there are seperate
font themes and color themes. I'm not sure themes are that specific. As
Steve says, fonts are included with the theme, and I don't see a way to
separate fonts from colors when saving themes.

But these are XML files, so you ought to be able to open them in an XML
editor and hack away to your heart's content.

It sure looks to me that Mac PowerPoint has themes. Am I off on some
other tangent or is this what you guys are talking about?

Isn't that what I suggested? : "If you want to include font specs you'll

Hi,

I must have misread. I thought you were saying it couldn't be done.
Apologies.
