Powerpoint error when PC starts up.

Hello,

Please can anyone help with the following:

Microsoft Office 2003 (For Students and Teachers) is installed on an XP PC
and is up to date. When the PC starts up an error appears saying that there
is an error in Microsoft Office Powerpoint and that the program will be
closed. The options are to send a report, etc.. After a report is sent a
message comes asking to open Powerpoint in safe-maode to correct the
problem. Powerpoint then opens.

I deleted Powerpoint (and all temporary files) -re-booted the PC and then
installed Office again and then updated it and Windows. The message still
appears. I also opened Powerpoint in the safe mode and via the help menu I
repaired it. PC re-booted but still the same problem.

Can anyone please let me know what the problem is?

Regards

Sue

Have you looked for startup items in Windows. It seems like one of your
startup items is either a corrupt PowerPoint file or something that Windows
is associating with PowerPoint. Otherwise, startup shouldn't even attempt to
open PowerPoint.

I doubt that anyone can tell what the problem is, but they can give some
pointers on how to get rid of it. I'd recommend trying this:
* Display adapter drivers are often the culprit. Try to disable hardware
acceleration (indeed, the display configuration dialog advises to do this
when there are problems). You could also try to reinstall the display
driver.
* Check what programs XP starts when it boots. There may be a conflict with
some program (virus checker? the program that speeds up Office's startup?
some utility program?). Try turning them off.
* Of course, the PC may be faulty. Perhaps faulty memory cirquits? You
could test that using http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memtest86
* Perhaps some peripherial device and/or its driver causes problems? Unplug
all attached devices that you can
