Powerpoint export crash

Hi,

i have Powerpoint 2003 under automation. At one site Powerpoint is crashing
("MS Powerpoint has experienced a problem and needs to close") when my i
export to JPG.

I had the user send the presentation to me and i can export on my system no
problem.

The user is able to 'saveas' JPG with no problem. If the 'saveas()' didn't
work i'd assume it was the JPG filter and ask him to reinstall - it may come
to that but in all other respects his powerpoint is working fine. He has no
powerpoint add-ins installed.

Any suggestions ?

TIA

Nigel

Does this happen to all presentations at that site or just certain ones (or
certain slides w/in the presentation)?

ISTR that you can run into errors if you try to export while in Master view.

Hi Steve,

as best i can tell... all presentations at the site and all slides within a
presentation

it will be in the default view.

Now that's curious..... setting the default view to be 'Notes' on my system
causes Powerpoint to crash when i do the oPres.close() as i'm tidying up
(having done all my exports sucessfully) - even though i've changed the view
to be slidesorter.

does anyone else get that or do i need to go sleep?

It might be worth storing the user's current view, setting PPT to the most
appropriate view for the task at hand, then resetting what they had at the end
of the run.

There were some odd bugs in 2002 that'd cause it to crash under very specific
circumstances; as I recall, it was something like:

- A new toolbar had been added during that session (as will happen at every PPT
launch if certain versions of Acrobat or other addins are present)

- The starting slide number changed (in Page Setup or programmatically)

- You changed view

Might be worth looking into that one.

nope... just exporting the existing slides

yes indeed.... now i step through again i realise that there is no view (or
at least no activewindow... i'm using getObject()) when i do the exports. I
do a oPres.newwindow() and switch into slidesorter view shortly before
closing. I've asked the user what his default view is and to try again with
it set to slidesorter but no word back yet.

Hi

So far to isolate the problem I think you may try to create a blank PPT to
see if that will cause the problem and then copy paste the slide one by one
to see if certain slide cause the problem.
If the problem will occur even used with a blank new PPT, I think you may
try to reinstall the PPT application.
