Powerpoint font sizes

M

michele.holcomb

For some unknown reason, I am not able to change the font size in
powerpoint to anything other than the default sizes. Ex. 14, 16, 18 20.
I have always been able to override this, so if I wanted 15pt type I
just typed it in, now is just changes it to a default size. I am on a
PC, running office XP. I have looked everywhere, checked the help menu,
but am coming up empty. My gut tells me maybe a preference or something
like that, but if I can't find it, I can't change it. Any help would be
appreciated.

Hi Michele -

AFAIK there is no setting in PPt that prevents resizing fonts provided you
*are* using a scalable font. Some programs allow prohibiting format changes,
but PPt isn't one of them. There are some fonts that aren't scalable as well
as some that don't change on screen unless you have the corresponding sizes
installed. Also, font files can get corrupted, which might account for the
behavior. Certain combinations of effects may inhibit size changeability,
too.

So the thoughts are: Is this happening regardless of which font you choose,
or only with a specific font? If a specific one, which is it and what type
of font is it? Does this apply to a certain piece of content or any
placeholder in the file? Are other PPt files affected - what happens in a
new file, for example? Are you having a similar problem in other programs?
is all software fully updated? Any other details you can supply would be
helpful.

BTW - I don't think you realize that you landed in the Mac PPt newsgroup:)
You're more than welcome in the group & we'll be glad to help you if we can,
but this could turn out to be a Windows-specific issue. Even so, you're far
more likely to find Mac users familiar with Windows than vice-versa :)

First, choose Tools, AutoCorrect and remove the check next to "AutoFit body
text to placeholder" if there's a check there now. Do the same for Title text.

Now try changing the text size again.

If no joy, what's the exact name of the font you're using? Does the same
problem occur when you choose Arial?

Does the same problem occur when you create a new presentation, add a blank
slide, insert a text box on it and try to change the type size to something
non-default?
