Does anyone know how I can change an already existing .pps file to a .pot file format? Any kind of help would be great.

Thanks

File> Save As?... But you don't "change" from one file type to another. It
isn't typical to save an entire presentation file as a template. If you'd be
more explicit about what you're trying to achieve perhaps there are some
other options to consider.

What?

my prof posted some powerpoints online and some are in .pot format which is cool because i can add notes and stuff to the powerpoints themselves. some other ones are .pps and for some reason i can only view them in slide show format and it closes the pp when i end show. this is really annoying and i was wondering if i can view it in the same way as the .pot files. it doesn't have to involve changing format. also i can't 'save as' when i'm viewing the latter powerpoints so i can't even try that.

thanks for your help so far, and anything in the future

The template information (basically the stuff that makes up a .POT file) is built into every
presentation based on a given template.

All you need to do at the most basic level is, as Bob mentions, open the PPS file (File, Open, browse
to the PPS) then choose File, Save As and choose Template as the save-as type.

You may or may not want to delete all of the slides in the presentation first.

If you leave any slides in the presentation, they also become part of any new presentations you base on
the template.

Do you mean .POT or .PPT?

The latter, I think.

Start PowerPoint, use File, Open and browse to the PPS file to open it.

Save as PPT rather than PPS.

Done.

See the PPT Help topic: File formats for saving presentations

I believe it will give you a better understanding of the distinction between
file types & the purpose for which each is used.
