powerpoint freezes when i type

I have a Megabook L610 notebook, with a giga of RAM, a radeaon 9700
with 128 of vram, plenty of hard drive space, Win XP Pro and everything
runs smooth... until i start typing in powerpoint: powerpoint freezes
after a little while (a couple of words typed in, sometimes a little
later, but never more than a couple of sentences). Most of the time
powerpoint recovers and becomes available again... after a minute or
more. Eventually it freezes completely and i have to shut it down (just
powerpoint, everything else i'm running works normally).

The issue does not seem hardware related (CPU usage = 4% at most). I do
get some freezes in Word, but never anything as bad. And Forefox
freezes sometimes too, but that's also shortlived. Could it be an
ActiveX issue (wild speculation right there, but i'm not a programmer,
just a power user wannabe).

My anti-virus is up to date, and so is my spyware software.

Options and ideas appreciated.

Sounds like a video card driver issue. Yes I know that sounds strange
but,,, try upgrading the driver for your video card and see if takes care of
it. While your at it, also make certain you have the latest version of
DirectX.

I have the Omega Drivers for ATI, version 5,9. As far as i know,
they're the latest. I also have DirectX as updated as can be...

Any other ideas?
