Powerpoint has stopped working message, when I exit powerpoint

I've been having trouble with office 2007 since the service pack update. I
use Vista. When I exit excel, powerpoint, or word, I often get an error
message which is
along the lines of 'Powerpoint' has stopped working, and whichever package
I'm using then reloads.

I also find that if I double click on a file name to launch powerpoint from
searching files, it starts powerpoint viewer. I need to load the file from
powerpoint itself to get the file to load correctly.

Any Ideas. I was considering uninstalling and reinstalling

I've run diagnostics. It says that I need to get an update. I follow the
links and there is no update available. Perplexing.
