PowerPoint Insert external WAV files

T

THE_WIZARD

In PowerPoint 2003, I am trying to insert WAV files I’ve created from OUTSIDE
of PowerPoin. I do so on a slide-by-side basis. The speaker icon appears on
each slide, as they should. However, when I try and play the sound files
from within PowerPoint, they do NOT play.

I set the file to Link sounds with files greater than to 0 KB and PowerPoint
does store the separate WAV files in the appropriate directory. When I
double click the separate wav files, they DO provide audio, so I know the
files work properly. But for some reason, PPT won’t play them, even though
it sees them.

What do I need to do to fix this?

Do you want the WAVs to be linked or embedded?

How did you create the WAVs? Are they MP3s that have had RIFF-WAV headers
applied?

It doesn't seem to matter how I create the linked sound files. I have
created them in PowerPoint by using the RECORD NARRATION option off the SLIDE
SHOW menu and make sure PPT is set to LINK SOUDS WITH FILES GREATER THAN 0 KB.

Even those files won't play in PPT.

My ultimate goal, is to be able to create linked WAV file in PPT, import
them into Audacity, a sound file editor, then REinsert them back into PPT.
At that point, I don't care if they are embedded or linked, but in the first
stage, I do want to be able to create linked sound files from within PPT that
actually WORK.

This could be about a gazillion different issues, but first I'd read up on
multimedia in PowerPoint. http://www.playsforcertain.com/tutorial.htm has a
nice explanation about the MCI Player, codecs, and other stuff that
typically impacts media and PPT. You should test your WAVs in the MCI player
as described in that article.

If that doesn't help you sort it out, post your question to the PowerPoint
newsgroup. There are a number of people there who can probably help you
figure out what is happening with the playback in PPT.

I am having the same exact problem that wizard is has having with the
external sound wave... I am not about to run around to a gazillion different
programs to test them. I like direct answer not go here and there for them.
When I click on the audio it plays so I know it works.

I also tried with a CD and it will not play the proper track... or it begins
in poper track then switches to another if timings have to reset. It may
because it is a live CD but my computer is new.

Well, as I told the Wizard, there are about a gazillion different reasons
this could happen, so if you don't want to bother doing your homework by at
least reading the link I gave him, then I don't want to bother offering
other suggestions.
