PowerPoint is changing my background

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC

I am copying slides from other slides shows I have created and placing them in a new slide show by copy/paste. Powerpoint is replacing my custom made backgrounds with white. I did this all the time with an older version of office with out a problem.

Anyone know why this is happening and how I can get my slides to keep their backgrounds.
