PowerPoint Keeps closing when editing from particular person

I am a Network Administrator @ a large international orginization. and have
found an issue that has stumped me...
When a particular user get's a powerpoint from another specific user in
Mexico the file opens fine but when he goes to edit this powerpoint it will
close as soon as you click the slide...
I sent the file to myself and to a colleauge and we were both able to edit
this file fine.
This is were it get's tricky... after messing with this for a while I
reinstalled his Office 2003 (back in June) then installed Service Pack 1.
The Problem persisted but he never mentioned it again so I thought it was
fixed
Last month his laptop was due to be replaced so we set him up with a whole
new computer. ( I did not transfer his settings only his old documents)

It turns out he is still having the same problem.
1. Office 2003 service pack 1
2. Only from 1 or 2 users does he have this problem
3. My colleauge and myself do not have this problem with the very same file
4. Have saved the document out of Outlook, made copy, & renamed
5. New install of Office 2003 Professional
6. New Computer with Transfer of Old Files
7. Opens File fine, when he goes to edit the file closes
8. Have saved the Powerpoint Slide as old version (97-2002)
9. Their are NO permissions set on this file (inside Powerpoint) he has
administrator rights to the computer

If anyone has a solution please send me some help @ (e-mail address removed)

Larry,

Two things. There is a new SP for Office 2003, download and install it.
Second, if the problem persists try updating his DirectX.

Thank You for the fast response... I actually already have Office SP2 but he
was in a hurry today for me to take the time to try that. So I thought I
would do that tomorrow... Just curious, How would the DirectX affect this
problem? I am open for anything at this point... (You can talk to me
technical I have about 16years experience in this field so I should
understand.)

DirectX is used extensively in PPT., the mouse is part of DirectInput.
