I want to be able to build Powerpoint on my pc and run on
my mac with the same transitions
1. will the new Powerpoint for mac 2004 run the same
transitions ?
2.will virtual pc run my program that was built on pc the
same on the mac?

Hi Mike,

1. Yes. PowerPoint 2004 supports all of the transitions that are
available on all Windows versions of PowerPoint.

2. Yes. Virtual PC will play PowerPoint exactly as it does on a PC
because it is a PC. Movies, sounds, and animations may not play smoothly
on slower processors.

re: point 1: In my experience that isnt exactly true. They say it will, but
I have had many slides when animations and, in particular emphasis effects
such as font transparency animations do not work on a mac after bringing the
file from a PC (using office 2003 and mac 2004)....i think the older
animations work OK.

re: point 2: movies are jerky on ppt 2004 in pretty much all cases when
played on the mac itself. When played in virtual PC, I am not sure about,
but the new version comes out soo (so they say) so maybe it owuuld be better
to wait for it.

By the way, one sort of workaround is to convert your video to mp4 using
quicktime pro.....this seems to make the video less jerky (even for mpegs to
mp4) - go figure

Havent tried to play these on a pc yet though

Hi Lorry,

Could you send me a presentation that demonstrates a transition makde in
WinPPT that does not play right in PPT 2004? Think "hot" when you see
"warmer than warm" in my email address.

My hunch is that they will not play smoothly if you don't have
sufficient video RAM, but I'd like to test that idea.

I'll do that in the next few days Jim.

Unlikely to be a ram problem as the machine I am using is a new 17"
powerbook with 2G of ram and the most up to date video card available.

Nevertheless, we sahll soon see.

I do not have ppt 2004 yet for pc i have been using 2002
(like so much software I have purchased in the past you
can't believe the Hype) but I have tried to play pc ppt
on my mac and vice versa and the transitions do not match
up especially "fade in" Since I heard about the virtual
pc software I wondered if that would help. also tried pc
ppt imported into Keynote to see if things would play the
same but all do not which I kind of understand even
though keynote will import ppt I have 512 ram on the pc
and 1 gig on my powerbook.
