You don't. At least not from "insert." You could, ostensibly, select multiple images in iPhoto and then drag them into PowerPoint.

Even if you could you'd wind up with a cluttered up slide that would take
even more time to untangle than inserting the images singly. If you'd
provide a description of what your actual objective is perhaps there are
alternatives to be considered.

What I am trying to do is to bring into powerpoint at least 20 images at one time, so I don't have to insert pictures twenty times. Then I would sequence the images in the slide sorter view. Just trying to speed up the process of inserting many images for a slide show.
Thanks

Hi Denis;

Well, even if you could insert them all at one time they'll all be simply
dumped on whatever the active slide is at the time & stacked on top of one
another. They won't be distributed onto separate slides. Also, you can't
"sequence" the images in Slide Sorter view -- in fact, you can't edit
content at all in that view or change anything about how that content is
distributed. You can rearrange the order of the *slides* themselves (as well
as apply transitions, etc.) but that just means moving the slide with 20
pictures to a different point in the presentation.

If you gather all the images into a single folder then use the Insert
Picture button [Drawing Toolbar] I think you'll find that it isn't that
time-consuming compared to trying to shuffle the images around form one
slide to another once they've all been dumped in the same place... That's
the point I was making originally.

As Jim suggested, you may be able to create or obtain a script to automate
the process but there is no 'shortcut' in the program itself.

I'm assuming something that you haven't stated: that you want to bring
each image in on a new slide; one slide per image. If that's correct,
see Jim's answer.

I'm assuming that Bob's answering based on the assumption that you want
to bring 'em all in on one slide. Therefrom arises the confusion. Or
at least so I assume.

Hi Steve;

[snip]

Not exactly :) My assumption was that the OP *did not* want to have 'em all
dumped onto a single slide... And would be better off to not do so.

'Bob's point' was that even on the PC -- where Windows OS allows
selection/insertion of multiple images at one time -- there is no way within
the program to *prevent* them from all being dumped onto the one slide which
is currently active... IOW, there's no provision in PPT itself to have those
images distributed across multiple slides [or have new slides generated by
the process].

On a Mac it's a moot point, though, because Mac OS doesn't permit selecting
multiple files in Open/Insert dialogs in the first place.

AFAIK, an external device (either VBA or Apple Script) would be needed to
accomplish what I understood the OP wanting to do. Quite honestly -- and no
jab at the OP intended -- that's a bit over the top IMHO for 20 images. If
it were 200 images that would be a different story. I'm just too dense to
comprehend how the time taken to research, obtain & customize code accounts
for any saving here. By the time the first reply was posted the 20 slides
could have been individually placed & done with :) I'm reminded of the
political philosophy of getting out of a deficit situation by spending more
money ;-)

You are right about 20 images, but I am talking about multiple slide/image presentations of sometimes over 100 images, so time is a consideration. These presentations are for photography classes, presentations etc. that may be produced weekly. The computer is a mac. Programs such as Expressions Media give the ability to drop many images into the program and then the sequencing can be done just by dragging images around. A 100 image slide show can be sequenced and projected in a matter of a few minutes.
Power point is great, but not having this ability has been a problem for me.

We're on the same page, just looking at it from different sides then. ;-)

A true code-geek will spend hours ... days if necessary ... to avoid a half-
hour of manual tedium. But ... yeah. For 20 pics, I have to agree with you.

Hi Denis,

I am wondering if you saw my previous posting about using an Automator
Action. I mentioned you can create your own or purchase an Automator
Action ready made. You can not use Automator Actions with Home and
Student versions of Office, however.

The Automator action I described will insert one picture per slide,
which you can order by dragging individual and groups of slides around
in PowerPoint's slide sorter view. You can easily set slide transitions
for the whole presentation to 1 second using the Slide Show > Slide
Transitions feature.

I don't know how far away you are from a store that sells books, but
once you ahve the Dummies book I co-authored you can make your own
Automator Action following the instructions in the book. You can buy it
ready-made here:
http://www.agentjim.com/MVP/PowerPoint/InsertPicturePowerPoint2008.html

Yes, you'll have to park the pictures in iPhoto before you can use the
Automator Action, but making a photo album in iPhoto for this purpose
would only take a few seconds.
