PowerPoint presentation stops during use.

During a PowerPoint 2003 presentation while advancing to the next slide it
will go from the presentation mode into normal view. A small box appears that
says something like 'return to previous view'. Once clicked it returns to the
presentation mode.

What can be done to stop this from happening?

air_assault1999,

I have almost exactly the same issue except I am using PP 2008.

If I display a slide for 5-10 min. PP will drop from presentation mode to
editing mode without an error (and worse - without any notice). I tracked
this issue down using "process explorer" - apparently one of the children of
CA Antivirus' cctray.exe wakes up periodically and interupts the PP view mode.

This would seem to be a Computer Assoc. problem except that these background
process' did not interfere with presentations when I was running PP 2003 or
the old PP viewer. MS needs to fix the presentation mode so that it is less
susceptible to interuption.

Looks like I'll be using your new nemesis, Keynote, until you guys fix this
(unless of course I grow found of the Mac).

Correction: I'm using Office 2007 on laptop with XP Pro, SP2 - all power
options turned off - no screensaver when in presentation mode.

Hi

Is there anything running in the background? Anti-virus, screensaver, e-mail
client, etc? If so turn them all off & see if that helps. Or are you using a
wireless keyboard and/or mouse? Try using a wired one to narrow down the
problem. What else? Oh, make sure you aren't accidentally brushing the
mousepad on the laptop with anything.

Lucy,

Thanks for the input - those are all good suggestions but one of the issues
is that some software, especially anti-virus software still loads process'
into memory even after you've turned them "off". Completely uninstalling an
anti-virus application just so that a PP can run uninterrupted is not a
practical solution.

Analyzing PP behavior a little further it seems that the PP presentation
viewer does not stay "on top" - another words both the presentation mode and
the editing mode run simultaneously and when some background process' "wake
up" they pull the editing mode "on top".

This is different behavior than what happened in PP 2003 or the PP viewer
(in the viewer's case there is no "editing" mode to "drop" to).

I'm really surprised more people don't have an issue with this.
