Intel iMac, OS 10.4.7, 512mbRAM, Office v.X, PowerPoint 10.1.7
PowerPoint quits shortly after the splash screen on launch. Other Office
apps are working well. I tried trashing PowerPoint preferences to no avail.
Any suggestions where to go next?

Make sure you've applied the Office X Security Update (2006-08-08). It's
available from Microsoft.

If you use the DivX codec, make sure it is up-to-date.

There are several more suggestions listed here on the PowerPoint FAQ that
you can go through if the above does not fix the problem:

You can also try checking for corrupt fonts. You can find a detailed
procedure at the McGimpsey & Associates web site.

Mickey,
Thank you for your quick response and wonderful suggestions. I tried them
all in succession and not succeeding until I got to one on the McGimpsey &
Associates site regarding the conflict between Adobe Acrobat and Office. I
have both on the same computer. Without this article I would never have
figured out for myself the problem and solution.
Thanks again,
George
