PowerPoint should allow me to create multiple slide layouts

I would like the ability to not only create a title master and slide master,
but also the master layouts for the other slide layouts. For example: I want
a two-column format with a specific position and size for images on the right
and a specific position and size for the text box on the left. This is not
my default slide layout, but I want it available whenever I need it. I would
like the slide layout I create to be presented in the slide layout task pane.

Currently, I have to click the existing slide layout and modify it each
time. I would also like to have only those layouts I've created in the master
view to be available in the slide layout task pane when I'm working in a
specific template. I'm currently using both 2002 and 2003 for my clients.
Currently my templates can range from 10 to 20 pages and the users have to
remove the pages they don't need. They are long because I need a layouts for
conceptual pages, flowcharts, demonstrations, exercises, lesson objectives,
lesson summaries, review questions, etc. all in one presentation. It would
also be nice if I could name each layout so it would be easier for the users
to pick the layouts they need by the type of page they need to create.

Thanks, DBlake
