Powerpoint Slideshow Problem

I am trying to present a slideshow that is timed (changes slides every 2 or 3
seconds) on a Lenovo x61. Every time I run the slideshow the main powerpoint
screen where you can edit slides pops up, with the slideshow paused in the
background. I either have to click on "resume slideshow" on the slideshow
toolbar or click the slideshow which is still open on the bottom of the
screen. Does anyone know how to fix this? It is not a power management issue
and seems to be an issue only for x61 laptops. Thanks.

The easiest way to fix this would be to change the extension in a PPT 2003
or earlier file from .ppt to .pps or the extension of a PPT 2007 file from
..pptx to .ppsx. This will start the file immediately in show mode and then
if the program drops it out it will close the show. If that happens you
then have an issue with something in the presentation that is corrupted,
such as an image or video file or even a special font.

Thanks for the response LVTravel. The only wrinkle is that it is not an issue
with just 1 slideshow. It is a problem with any slideshow I try to run timed.

Actually I think that might have done the trick for this presentation. Would
love to know what the real problem is so I wont have to save as pps
everytime. Thanks LVTravel!

As I indicated it could be an issue with an image, video file or the like
that is only failing some times. This can be related to an old driver on
the system and since you say it is only on the Levono systems, I would
suspect a driver issue, probably in the video circuit but it also could be
motherboard chipset or even the sound drivers. Might want to look for
updated drivers on Levono's web site.

Unfortunately, you just can't rename in 2007. You have to save as from within PowerPoint.

Hi

Just a point of order - I believe you can't change the new file extensions
in the way you could the old ones (i.e. change pptx to ppsx and powerpoint
won't run it) though you can still change through the save dialogue box.

You and Michael are correct, you can't rename must save as. Just so used to
doing it in PPT before '07 forgot the changes in '07. Thanks for picking
this up for the OP and me.

The "resume slideshow" button usually pops up when you're running in
Presenter Mode -- which is usually only available if you have two monitors.
The slideshow runs on one, the editing window on another. Sounds to me as
though you've dragged the editing window so it's on top of the slide show
view rather than being on the second monitor.

Then, when something steals focus from the slide show, you see the "resume
slideshow" button so you can give focus back.

So try going to Slide Show | Set up Show and unchecking "show presenter
view."
