Powerpoint summary slide icon is grayed out when slides selected

I'm adding summary slides to a series of presentations. It's behaving in a
quirky manner. Sometimes I select all of the slides, select the icon, and I
get my summary. But often, it remains grayed out , and will only become
functional for certain slides. I can't find a common thread in the slides
that are causing it to gray out. Help!

The common thread is the Title placeholder, it is required on all selected
slides to enable the summary.

If for some reasons, you have deleted the title, you can add a new slide,
then copy the title placeholder(the one that says:"Click to add title"), then
paste it onto the slides without the title placeholder. Lets say if you do
not want the title to be displayed on the slide, you can give a name in the
title placeholder, then drag it off the working area so that it will not be
seen during the presentation.

Thanks, all. I was going nuts. Well, this is going to be a big job - it's a
*lot* of big presentations. Rats.

Perhaps not as big as you think.

You can write a macro that checks each slide for a title placeholder. If it
finds one, it moves on to the next slide; however, if it doesn't, it adds a
new blank title placeholder (and maybe moves it up off the slide). Then the
macro can create your select all summary slide fairly easily.
