PowerPoint Temp files

Gareth John

Please forgive me if this a FAQ with a well-known solution. I haven't
seen it mentioned here.

I use Office v.X under OSX 10.4.8. In PowerPoint's preferences I've
turned off saving 'autorecover' files, and I've disallowed 'fast saves'.

I generally work on presentation documents for extended periods, and
re-save ('save as') them from time to time throughout a work session,
with a new version number.

As I do so, the folder in which I'm saving the presentation becomes
progressively cluttered with "PowerPoint Temp' files, with successive
numbers starting at 0. The 'Temp 0', 'Temp 1' etc. files all survive
quitting PowerPoint.

I haven't seen this behaviour before in previous versions of Office, and
I've got used to trashing the lot once I've also reached a 'final
version of the presentation itself. But I'm sure it's not supposed to be
happening.

Googling didn't throw much light on this (at any rate, not for v.X), so
I'm hoping someone here can help.

TIA,

Gareth.

I gather this is a rare problem. I'll soldier on...

Try preventing Spotlight from indexing the folder where you're saving
to via System Prefs > Spotlight > Privacy. If you're running any
anti-virus apps, try disabling "AutoProtect" and see if that helps.

Thanks for that - I'll give it a try. It'll probably mean creating a
separate designated folder that I use for PowerPoint work in future.
Bizarre, eh?

I don't have anything like that - haven't had since good ol'
Disinfectant (around System 7.6).

Thanks for the help.
