powerpoint texbox issue - font increase randomly in textbox?

Sorry for posting this twice but I could not find my previous post, but I
really need some help here.

We have a ppt 2007 problem. The problem is on our CEO's computer too!

We have ppt 2007 with all updates/service packs. The user will create a
textbox in powerpoint and starts typing, then saves the ppt file. When the
user goes back into the ptt file and clicks in the textbox and starts typing,
"randomly" the font will increase and the user has to set the font back.

Why Microsoft, why? This person uses powerpoint probably more than anyone
at our company, since he's in meetings mostly. It's very annoying for the
user and I'm trying to find a fix. Why does the textbox font increase while
typing? I have tried every tip out there.

Steve Rindsberg suggested installing a "test" printer which I figured would
work

that did not help.

This user has network printers from many locations setup but I'm not sure
that would make a difference. The printer installed locally is the HP Color
LaserJet cm1312 nfi MFP. I want to update the printer driver but you must
uninstall the whole printer software and reinstall it per HP. That could
turn into a full day's work since it's a printer/fax/copier and I don't have
much time in the office when working on the computer.

Any suggestins on what might be the problem?

T user has a Dell Latitude E4300 (xp sp3 fully patched), 2GB/1067MHZ, 160gb
drive.

See if this helps. On a blank presentation click Insert, text box, right
click on the box's border, click format shape in the dropdown then text box
in the left column. If Shrink text on overflow is checked check either
Resize shape or Do not Autofit and then close. Right click on border again
and then click Set as Default textbox.

Close and restart PPT and see if the text box no longer causes shrinking or
enlarging text. It may not accomplish the fix for previously created PPT
files however.

or enlarging text. It may not accomplish the fix for previously created
PPT files however.

But that's only going to affect the presentation you do it on. If you do it
on a blank presentation, it doesn't affect the template, nor does it affect
any other presentation.

The default textbox/autoshape/line setting is per-presentation. It's not a
global PPT setting.

I think it's a good suggestion, but I would do it on the problem file, not
on a blank presentation file.

If it takes care of the issue, then you'll want to do it on the blank
default template as well as any frequently-used themes or templates.

I forgot to mention, we turned off all the AutoFormat as you type
settings.... in ppt 2007 and still we are having the issue. I'm an IT Admin
and having the CEO call me out like this about and because of all things,
Powerpoint.....I take it personal...my work that is.

I just can't believe ppt 2007 would act like this. There has to be others
that have experienced this.

Anyone else out there with suggestions??? Thanks everyone!

That sounds really weird and NO I've never seen it before.

Any chance you could post a screenshot of the problem or even better mail me
an affected slide (with non personal data) and I will try to work backwards.

I hear ya. I'm with John, though -- it's not something I've ever seen,
either. Especially if you installed the specific test printer driver listed
in that FAQ and set it as the default driver, then the printer driver thing
at least is likely not your issue. That's the closest thing I've ever seen
to what you're describing, but I don't think you've got the same issue.

Is the problem with a specific file, or is it with all files? If it's just
one file, it could be the file is on the verge of becoming *really* corrupt.
Try round-tripping it through HTML and see if that fixes it up. Here's

If you can send a file to John as he requested, I'd highly recommend doing

Let me get a sample.ppt file from the ceo and I'll email it to you.
There's really not much to show, but I'll get the file. He just creates a
blank presentation, then creates a textbox, then saves it, goes back into the
file, types in the box, then boom...the font inside the text jumps up many
points, not the whole sentence, just that letter where the font
increases....crazy!!!

It's all files, not just any in particular. The user can create a new one
and the font will mess up and he has to change the font in the bar at the
top... So I'm not sure round tripping will work...I mean, he's not going to
stand for that, nor will he do it..even if you gave him instructions...not
much patience with this user. That's a great tip and I'll for sure look into
it for future references!!
