powerpoint won't play movie

I am unable to put into powerpoint 97 and video clip that
I made on my digital camera. It plays the sound but
nothing else. It says video not available could not find
decompressor. Do I need to download somthing for the video
to work?

What is the extension format of the movie? Is it AVI, MPG or MOV?
