PowerPoint won't save

Bad issue while preparing presentations. Using video files .mov but I've done that before.

First PowerPoint says I must close some files before I can save the file. No other programs or files are open.

Import to Keynote and things are fine for a while then I can't add video to the presentation anymore.
1. When the insert file selection comes up, the directory with the files shows none there (but they are there).
2. After switching to the drag and drop method (both jpg and mov) suddenly they won't "stick" on the slide anymore. Just come back to finder.
After rebooting the machine, it works again.

???????????

MacBook Pro, max RAM, approx 40 Gb remaining on the HD.

Thanks
