Powewrpoint 2004 Chart problems

DMA

I just opened a ppt received from a colleague (Windows). That ppt has many
charts (one per slide) and during the opening process, there has been many
metafile conversions (all the charts I believe). Most (not all) charts are simple
Bar charts with moving average lines. The problem is that these Bar charts
have been somewhat inverted, as if i was looking at a reflection of them in a
mirror and upside down. There is no way I can modify (rotating) them.
However, if i double-click on the charts, Microsoft Graph opens up and the
chart looks fine.

The same ppt is fine (and faster) if opened with Office Vx (Powerpoint Vx);
seems to be an issue with Powerpoint 2004.

any fix known?

thanks,

DMA

Hi DMA,

I seem to remember that there was a bug in a version of Office for
Windows where that would happen. I bet if the windows users install the
required office updates the problem will go away.

Thanks for the info; would you know which version?
Why is Powerpoint Vx not having this problem with the same file?

I also saw a similar issue with flag pictures, where they would be inverted
the same way; but it is possible to "turn them around" with the rotate tool;
that problem was also showing in Vx.

Hi DMA,

PPT 2004 honors a picture setting that was ignored in previous versions
of office. If an image generating program sets a flag to reverse the
picture PowerPoint now obeys the setting. This is a case where fixing a
PowerPoint bug suddenly makes it apparant that some other graphic
generating software has a bug that needs to be fixed.

The graphs problem is different. v.X handles things differently from
2004. There were major changes made to PowerPoint from X to 2004. Office
for Windows has updates to improve compatibility and to fix a critical
security flaw. Anyone using a Windows version of Office is risking
serious damage to their computer if they don't install the Office
updates. In my mind these updates are not optional and should be done
immediately.

Hi Jim,

Thank you very much for taking the time to explain the isssue. I will inform
my colleagues asap.

Are you also aware of a glitch in Entourage 2004 (by the way, very good
product) where it is not possible to print contact cards (I get the error
30876); the preview of the print is also not visible in the preview window). I
have no other printing issues.

Best regards,

DMA

Hi again,

You're welcome about the cross-platform issue. There are other
possibilites, but let's start with the obvious ones.

I have no problems printing Entourage contacts. You might wish to do a
Google search of the newsgroups to see whether or not this issue is known.

This is a known issue that is caused by viewing complex HTML messages prior
to opening the Accounts window. You can work around it by re-launching
Entourage and then editing your account before opening any complex HTML
messages.

It sounds like you might have a corrupt printing form. Delete this folder:
/Users/<Your User>/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Printing Forms/

It will be recreated next time you print something, most likely eliminating
the corruption that did not allow you to print earlier.
