PP 2002 saving presentations

Help! I am having trouble saving a presentation from PP 2002 to a CD for use
on a laptop off site. I try to use pack and go, but I get an error message
"incorrect function".

Also it will be used on a laptop that has PP 2003. Will I be able to read it
with all my graphics and sound files?

thanks in advance.

Yes, it will work on PowerPoint 2003. But let's hear more about the problem.
When do you get the error. Please give us the exact steps of what you are
doing.

Thank you for responding. I have since been able to copy the file just by
selecting the file and then "copy to CD". BUT not all my sound files get
copied.

I then retried Pack and go following these steps:
1. I open the presentation file.
2. Then under "File" I choose "Pack and Go".
3. I use the wizard...and select "choose destination".
4. In browse I select "E"...and hit select. It goes back to the wizard and
this shows up in the browse window: E:\
5. I hit next and then include linked files.
6. Then I select "Don't include the viewer"...next.
7. It starts to compress and copy the file, but tells me it can't find some
of my sound files. I am guessing I have to somehow convert the MP3 files to
Wav and don't know how. Is this possible?

Thanks you again for your help.

You don't need WAVs. You just need to correctly link the MP3s.

The "incorrect function" message you are getting is from PowerPoint and Windows
telling you that the function of writing to a CD cannot be done from within
PowerPoint.

When you pack your file, pack it to your hard drive. Pack and Go, PowerPoint
and other applications will not save files to a CD-R. You need to use your CD
burning software for that step because it is designed for that specialized task.

So, first resolve the problem with the music files. Since you inserted them in
the presentation, you must have moved them or renamed them if Pack and Go can't
find them. When you insert a music file in PowerPoint you tell PowerPoint where
the file is and what its name is. You either need to delete them from the
presentation and reinsert them correctly or make sure they are where you
originally told PowerPoint they were and that they have the name you told
PowerPoint. If you do the latter, test the presentation by playing it to make
sure that PowerPoint can find the music files and play them.

Then, pack your presentation to a folder on your hard drive. Pack and Go will
create two files. One is the packed presentation (PRES0.PPZ) and the other file
(PNGSETUP.EXE) is what you run to *unpack* the file. Run PNGSETUP.EXE and all
of your files (your presentation and your sound files) will be unpacked.

Now, open your CD burning software. Put a blank CD in your burner. Move the
unpacked files to the CD. Click on the "Burn" button.

Sonia THANK YOU!!!

I never would have figured it out myself. Everything transferred just fine.
I just ran it through on the laptop I will be doing the presentation on and
it is OK.

Thanks again!!!

I hope you can help me as well. I am running Office 2003 and have created a
PPT deck that contains several linked MP3 music files. When I use the built
in capability to Copy to CD, it does copy all the files to the CD, and burns
it correctly. However, the music files are not played. When I look on the CD
- all looks fine, except that the links to the music files are the OLD links
from my PC - not links to the files on the CD. Any suggestions?

Package for CD should resolve the links for you. If it hasn't, try choosing
Copy to Folder in the Package for CD process, then burn those files to the
CD.

Alternatively, just put the MP3 files in the same folder with your
presentation *before* you insert the MP3s into the presentation. Yes, this
means you need to delete the MP3s from your presentation, move/copy them to
the folder, then reinsert them. The good news is, this should help make your
links intact when you create the CD with Package for CD.
