PP still not working

E

Ed

Why can't I get any help? It's like a maze finding out where to go for help.
I still can not use PP 2004. I got office for that program alone and it wont
work. I have been using Keynotes with the hope PP04 gets a fix. You can not
play any movies, giffs, or flash in PP 04 without lagging.

PLEASE SOMEONE EMAIL ME IF YOU KNOW OF A FIX.

Hi Ed,

A few weeks ago one of the PowerPoint executives requested that people
send in example presentations and files.

There hasn't been much information since that time. I would expect that
the Microsoft progam developers are working on this right now and that
an update would be forthcoming. It does take time to fix things and
test the fixes. Sorry, but I don't know for sure when there will be an
update.

Thank you for responding.
Why would the PP executives need exsamples? Just drop anything into
powerpoint and see for yourself. It should have never been released before
this fix. There is no way they could have not known about this.

I'm not taking my anger out on you.. I'm not even sure who you are. I'm just
voicing my frustration of replacing my officeX and spending that much on
something I can not use.

Not exactly a fix here, but I exported my Flash file as QuickTime and
PowerPoint v.X plays it just fine and the interactivity works. When I
open the same file in PowerPoint 2004 (Test Drive) the file plays fine
in edit mode, but looks awful in Presentation mode and there's no
interactivity, no matter what resolution I use. My client has 2004, so
I'm not sure what to do.

Will Microsoft fix this so that the capabilities of v.X will be in
2004? Otherwise, why would I upgrade? Are there any other options?

Hi David,

PowerPoint 2004 uses Apple's QuickTime to play Flash files. Whatever
interactivity that QuickTime supports ought to work in PowerPoint.
Whatever is missing from Apple's QuickTime will be missing from PowerPoint.

Given what you said, this sounds like a bug. Can you describe the steps
you took to save the Flash file as QuickTime? What interactivity is lost?

Hi Jim,

In Flash (MX 2004 7.2) I use the Publish Settings to add QT as a file
format and use the default settings (640x480; no controller; Playback
items all Off; File set to Flatten). The movie contains three buttons
that have rollover states and link to different sections of the movie.
When I drop the QT into PowerPoint 2004 (30-day trial), the buttons
lose their rollover states and clickability (the cursor remains a
pointer, no hand).

When I drop the same QT into PowerPoint v.X (normal license),
everything works just fine. The problem is that my client just bought
a new Mac and PPT 2004 so he doesn't have a license for 2003.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
David

Hi,

Is it possible for you to supply an example QT and PPT presentation or
two to Microsoft?

Nancy Cho is a tester for PowerPoint. If you can provide Microsoft a
copy of the problem files that would probably help a lot. Her email
address is (e-mail address removed)

Please be sure to provide step-by-step details so that she can reproduce
the problem you are experiencing.

1). I've just got Powerpoint 2004 this week, having been using 2001 both in
native 9.2 and in classic under 10.4 ...... I have the same problem ....
powerpoint 2004 and QT flash DO NOT work embedded together!!!! ..... and yet
the same files with older version of PPT work no problem in terms of button
control etc etc.....
Rather MAJOR PROBLEM as many very good educational clips come in this format
.... interactive education is in ... maybe someone should tell the
programmers / powerpoint developers at MS!!!!!

2). PPT 2004 also seems unable to port over links to flash, real player etc
again from 2001 .. don't know about X as I don't have it .... and have to be
re-entered under the hyperlink insert mode, even with the files sitting in
the same folder!!!!

3). Most of my multi-media material (QT, Real Player, Flash) is set up on
html pages created by Adobe Go-Live .... in PPT 2001 (and in Windows PPT), a
hyperlink will then run these in Explorer ..... but in PPT 2004 it wants to
open then in GO-Live which will not play them direct .... is there anyway of
getting PPT 2004 to open these in Explorer (ie set it as default) rather
than having to save all (thousands) the Go-Live files as explorer ones....

4). In normal slide edit mode in PPT 2004, is there anyway of setting the
background colour of the window (NOT the slide) to a colour other than the
blue grey so I can actually see the guide lines outside of the slide with
out squinting ...

That will do for starters

Will do, as soon as I have a chance. I'm busy now trying to catch up
on lost time due to this bug and poor playback of video within PPT
2004 as well. My client is now playing Flash in Safari and video in
the QuickTime player. For some reason, PPT 2004 doesn't play Windows
Media Files either. Oy.
