PP unable to open its own files

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

When I create a PP presentation and save it in the new format, pptx, PP can't open it anymore. I've tried this one three different presentations and I'm unable to open the presentation again. I have to save the file in the old format to ensure that I can open it.

Is there any fix for this? The recently released patch didn't help.
