PP Viewer 07

J

Julie

How do I get the shadows and bullets I used in the PP 07 presentation I
created to show correctly in PowerPoint 07 to appear correctly in PP Viewer
2007? They are all gibbled up.

J

Julie

I don't understand how changing my printer driver (Canon) will have any
effect on my presentation in the viewer.

My PP2007 works very well for me. It's the conversion to the viewer that is
failing miserably.

Please advise.... J.

We don't understand why either. But it often does.

This will sound cranky; it's not meant in that spirit.
Pure practicality, that's the ticket:

Have you followed the link and tried the suggestions there?

It costs nothing, takes less time than waiting for a reply here and so often
solves this kind of problem that until you HAVE tried the suggestions there,
there's not a lot of point in speculating further what might be wrong.

Oh, yeah, that *is* odd. Is there something different about the shadows in
the file you want to use?

Reinstalling PPT 2007 won't help, I'm afraid. Running Diagnostics from

would....

I've run the diagnostics - everything is fine...

tThe shadow I want is in the Picture format ribbon in the Picture Styles
section - the 4th in the series - the "Drop Shadow Rectangle". it is NOT
found under "Picture Effects."

Oh, yeah, that *is* odd. Is there something different about the shadows in

Well, the good news is, I can reproduce this. I applied this picture style
to a picture, and when I show it in the PPT 2007 Viewer, the soft drop
shadow becomes a hard-edged, PPT "2003-style" shadow.

For what it's worth, if I apply those settings from the "drop shadow
rectangle" picture style by going to Picture Effects | Shadow | Shadow
Options, that one also shows up with hard edges. It is quite odd, though,
that the other picture styles with shadows (metal frame, beveled oval black,
for example) don't have this problem.

Sorry it took so long to nail this down. I'll report it as a bug, although
it may actually be "by design." (Although I would call it a strange design,
that's for sure.)

Oh, I meant to give you a workaround.

Apply the effect, then copy the picture and Ctrl+Alt+V to Paste Special.
Choose PNG. It won't be an editable picture, but it should look the way you
want! Oh, delete the original picture, of course. If you want to retain the
editable pictures, either drag the original off the edge of the slide or
make a copy of the slide and hide it before you create the PNGs.

I wouldn't expect a fix from MS for this -- at least not any time soon. I
haven't heard back about this particular issue, but they don't historically
publish fixes quickly.

But did you see the workaround I posted? That should let you use the effect,

I would like to resolve the anomaly. I want to use that effect that will
not
reproduce in the .pps or Viewer.

Can you sort this out with MS??

Echo S said:
Well, the good news is, I can reproduce this. I applied this picture
style
to a picture, and when I show it in the PPT 2007 Viewer, the soft drop
shadow becomes a hard-edged, PPT "2003-style" shadow.

For what it's worth, if I apply those settings from the "drop shadow
rectangle" picture style by going to Picture Effects | Shadow | Shadow
Options, that one also shows up with hard edges. It is quite odd, though,
that the other picture styles with shadows (metal frame, beveled oval
black,
for example) don't have this problem.

Sorry it took so long to nail this down. I'll report it as a bug,
although
it may actually be "by design." (Although I would call it a strange
design,
that's for sure.)

I've been plugging away at this prob.
Discovered that all the other shadows in PPT work fine in the
viewer -
just
not the one i want to use.

isn't that odd?

Can I reinstall just PPT 07? Would that help?

:

It originated in PPT 2007. Tried it in a converted version 03 too.
Already downloaded the 07 viewer - twice - on the off-chance as
well.

Oh well!!

Nuts. This is really strange.

Did the file originate as a 2007 file, or was it created in a

You know, you might also try downloading and re-installing the

Updating my video driver and changing the hardware acceleration
have
no
effect on this either. I re-installed Office too - no
improvement.
It seems I'm simply out of luck - too bad to lose all the new

Hm. I was wondering if "backsaving" as 97-2003 format (which
package

does automatically) might have something to do with it, but it
seems
not.

Oh, thank you!! I realize this thread is five months old, but I just hit
upon it after searching for hours and hours for a solution to the "Drop
Shadow Rectangle" problem. That drop shadow was the only one I wanted to use
in my slideshow, and the PP Viewer insisted on displaying the shadows as
hard-edged. Blech! I never tried publishing my project using a different
drop-shadow style, so I didn't know that the problem was ONLY with the Drop
Shadow Rectangle. Anyhow, the converting of the graphics to PNGs is a great
workaround even though I now have dozens of photos to convert. By the way, I
had a similar problem with similarly placed shadows on some text, but
converting the text box to a PNG works great and keeps the text shadows
soft-edged. Again, thank you for your persistence in coming up with a
solution. Hopefully, MS will fix this bug!
