PP X no longer accepting graphic files it previously accepted

I have been using PP for years, and have never encountered this
problem. Suddenly, PP won't accept many of the .jpgs and .tifs that
I've been using. They have no preview, and they either get a message
saying that the file format is unrecognized and I should try to open
it in another application (which I can); or I get the big red X (which
I've never had from myself!) Should I just re-install (which is a
pain because we have a group license and I would need to have it sent
via campus mail), or is there a bigger problem? Thanks!

It sounds like something changed on your system.

Did you install something new?

Try using Disk Utility to repair permissions and see if that helps.

No, I haven't installed anything but security updates recently. I'm
wondering if the file format of jpgs has changed since OS 9? I'll try
using the Disk Utility to repair permissions, but I know I've done
that within the past two weeks (I must have read it here!). Would
updating to Panther help?
