Pp2007: ActiveWindow.Selection.Unselect recenters view

A

Arno

Hello,

in PowerPoint 2007, when having a shape selected and having zoomed in
to that shape, running ActiveWindow.Selection.Unselect recenters the
view to the center of the slide. PowerPoint 2003 does not do that. Did
anyone else notice that as well? Any workaround?

TIA,

Arno

Haven't noticed that one in particular, but there are several other odd similar
behaviours that people have reported in the PPT newsgroup. This sounds like it
might be related.

I don't know of any workaround, but with luck a service pack will fix it. We
can hope.

Hello Arno,

I did not reproduce this issue in my PPT 2007.

Could you please post the detailed reproduce steps here?

My test is:

1. Create a PPT in PowerPoint 2003, add a Shape and add a Marco to run
ActiveWindow.Selection.Unselect .

2. Open this PPT file in PowerPoint 2007, and zoom the Shape, then, I run
the Marco. The shape did not recentered.

Sincerely,

Wei Lu

I did not reproduce this issue in my PPT 2007.

It's simple to repro in PPT 2007:

Draw a rectangle that's almost as wide as the slide.

Zoom in on it (300-400% or so), then scroll to the left or right so that one of
the sides of the rectangle is visible on screen.

Now copy/paste this into the immediate window and press Enter (or put it in a
module, doesn't matter):

Activewindow.Selection.Unselect

The view will center itself on the slide rather than staying where the user
left it on the edge of the rectangle.

Bug.

Hello Steve,

I reproduce this issue. It seems that PPT 2007 did not behavior like PPT
2003.

Thank you for your providing. Before I send this to the product team to
check any update, I would like to know whether this behavior is impact your
business or not.

Thank you!

Hello Wei,

yes, it does impact my business. My customers get mad if the view
jumps around when running my app. A work-around would be highly
appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Arno

Hello Steve,

2003.

That's true. There are some other related differences that have already been
reported to the PPT team.
Thank you for your providing. Before I send this to the product team to
check any update, I would like to know whether this behavior is impact your
business or not.

This and some of the other problems with zoom behavior make it very difficult
to work productively at high magnification. Imagine trying to edit points or
line up shapes precisely when every little zoom change moves the screen center
to the center of the shape instead of the part of it you're trying to work
with.

You'd have to repeatedly use the scroll bar and locate the work area (not
always quick or easy when you're at a high zoom percentage). This would result
in a lot of wasted time. Several users have already complained about other
zoom problems like this in the PPT user group.

See Arno's reply also. He's not alone. ;-)

Steve,

is this only a VBA problem or a problem that also occurs during
interactive use? If it happens when working interactively as well, I
have hopes that Microsoft eventually will do something about it.

It occurs during interactive use as well. There are quite a few similar issues
around shape selection/zoomed behavior. MS is aware of them. Beyond that, I
don't know much, other than that I hope they get fixed too. <g>
