PPS file not accessible from server over intranet

I've got a number of .pps files that I need to be accessible from our
school's server (OS X Server 10.3.9) over the intranet. For some
reason when I click on the links to them I get a web page full of
gobbledigook that I suspect is as close as can be managed to rendering
the file in html. When I set up the intranet site for this I tested it
on a number of computers around the intranet and it all worked fine -
the links led to a folder containing the .pps file that could then be
opened.
Once it was all transferred to the server this ceased to work. I tried
replacing the .pps files with .ppt files - these downloaded onto the
desktop rather than opening the folder that contained them. The files
are not corrupt and everything was made using macs. I'm using Nvu.10 to
make the web pages.
I would be most grateful if anyone has any ideas on fixes for this.

Sounds like your issue has more to do w/the configuration of the web
server and the behavior of your web browser than PowerPoint.

I'd check into what your MIME type (aka Content-type) settings are for
the various file extensions/types. Examples of them are:
Content-type: application/octet-stream
Content-type: text/plain
Content-type: text/html

Maybe

similiar will point you in the right direction. I'm personally not too
familiar w/Apache server configuration.
