.pps to be distributed, avi files won't play on other computers

I have created a .pps file which is to be distributed to customers on CD.
It contains two small .avi movies both of which run perfectly on the
computer which was used to create the slide show. However, on two other test
computers, the movies won't run, all you see is the first frame as a static
picture. Otherwise, the slide show runs perfectly. All three computers are
running Windows XP Pro and Office 2000. The movies were created with Cool
3D and no compression was used in order to maintain quality. I don't think
file size is an issue as they are both around 6 MB. Is there a Codec/ type
of compression I can use which will guarantee that these movies will run on
any XP computer?

I'd convert the AVIs to WMV. That's generally more compatible with PPT on
the PC.

If you were using PPT 2003 or 2007, I'd say it's easiest to just use
http://www.playsforcertain.com and be done with it. (Either PFCMedia or
PFCPro should do. The trial version will get you through this project,
even.) There are tutorials there that may be of use to you, though.

Movie files are not embedded in PPT so, movinf to an other computer, you
have to take your videos as well as your presentation

Hi,
Do the .avi files play back correctly in Windows Media Player? If not,
you may need the correct video codec to make it. To know how codec
affect media file playback and which codec do you need, please refer
to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa168133.aspx.

If you want to these movies in your PowerPoint presentation run on
any XP computer, converting your PowerPoint presentation to Flash
would be a good way, then others without PowerPoint app installed on
their computers or without the correct video codec installed on their
computers are able to view your presentation on Flash player. Flash is
compatible with multiple different computers, explorers, and different
operation systems.

BTW, you can embed all the movies in PowerPoint presentation in the
Flash, with a smaller file size. It is ideal to email it to others and
upload to Web.

Try to use some third party presentation tool such as Wondershare
PPT2Flash Standard http://www.sameshow.com/powerpoint-to-flash.html.
A useful PowerPoint to Flash converter, an add-in of PowerPoint, it
can convert your PowerPoint presentation to Flash with one click.
All the original effects in PowerPoint will be retained in the
Flash.

Hope it helps.
All the best.
