PPT 03 files displaying poorly in PPT 2007

Is there a software fix from MS about this? I've seen a couple of posts that
say you have to have a printer driver - well, there are the two from MS that
came installed, and then there is the default driver for the office
(networked) machine.
When I open MS Powerpoint 2003 or 1997 files with Powerpoint 2007, with the
aim of editing them, a) I the fonts are split in half and shifted vertically
within the text-box place holder. b) in "slideshow", the fonts only display
the bottom half of the text.
Why? If this has been an issue for a while, why doesn't someone at MS write
a patch that will fix this? Redmond are supposed to be hiring the best and
brightest, but why isn't this bit of software smart enough to open up the
older files, even in compatibility mode? Saving the files in newer versions
hasn't helped. SOMETIMES copying the entire file and pasting it into a new
file has helped, but WHY SHOULD THIS BE NECESSARY?
Sorry - rant due to frustration, I have about 200 different powerpoints that
are currently nearly useless. Who do I bill for my wasted hours fixing or
retyping this?

Try setting the default driver to one of the MS supplied ones. If the
default driver isn't local, that could be the problem.

I'm not Microsoft, I don't know why they don't put out a patch to fix this.
