PPT 2003 Interop w/ Embedded Excel Files

Folks,

I've got a PPT file that was originally created in Powerpoint 2003 (SP2). The PPT deck has a number of embedded Excel worksheets, created in Excel 2003 (SP2).

I can open the PPT, click on the embedded worksheets and modify them. Sometimes PP2008 gets a bit weird with the sizing of the visible portion of the embedded worksheet or messes up the fonts. I can usually just resize the worksheet data in the slide and it's fine.

Now, when I modify a worksheet in a slide, then send it back to someone with Windows, they can open the PPT just fine and see all the slides just fine, but when they try to modify the embedded worksheet, PP2003 throws up an error:

"The server application, source file, or item can't be found, or returned with an unkown error. You may need to reinstall the server application."

Is there a preference or option that I can set that will allow me to modify an embedded worksheet in a PPT slide and after saving also allow my co-workers using Office 2003 to modify that same worksheet?

I'm running the latest update to Office 2008 for Mac.

Thanks,

/mpb
