PPT 2003 OLE shape tags disappear in 2007

Arno

Hello,

did anyone encounter the same problem and found a work-around: After
loading a .ppt (PowerPoint 2003 format) file in PowerPoint 2007, any
OLE shapes (e.g., Office 2003 charts, but also other OLE shapes) have
an empty Shape.Tags collection. It does not matter whether the file was
saved in Office 2003 or in 2007 (as .ppt). It works fine for non-OLE
shapes.

TIA,

Arno

Hi Arno,

This is a kindly update for this issue.
I have reported the issue to our product team, and they confirmed this is a
problem in the product.
If the issue is urgent, you may want to work with Microsoft Customer
Service and Support (CSS) for a faster resolution e.g. request a hotfix.
Once you open a Support incident with Microsoft CSS, a dedicated Support
Professional can work with you in a more efficient manner. This support
incident should be free.

Hello Peter,

I found a possibly related problem with the Office 2007 Compatibility
Pack for Office 2003. When using it to save and then load a file using
the .pptx file format in PowerPoint 2003, the Tags collection is also
gone, just like when loading/saving .ppt with Office 2007.

Regards,

Arno

Hi Arno,

That isn't surprising. The Compatibility Pack uses nearly the same code
as PPT itself.

P.S.: I love your products :)

Hello Patrick,

I still would like to get this bug logged at MS, so that others (like
our customers) can specifically request it to be fixed. Our code is
full of work-arounds for Office bugs already, would be nice to take
some out eventually...

Arno

P.S. Nice blog!

Hi Arno,

Thanks for your reporting.
I think this should be caused by same reason in your previous issue.

Since the Compatibility pack is for reading Office 2007, so its code should
be similar with Office 2007 application to read PPTX (office 2007) file. As
we discussed before, this should be an design change that we use a new text
engine in Office 2007.

If you have any concern, please let me know.

Thanks for your feedback and understanding!
