PPT 2004 extremely slow with network files

I've posted this before but never received a useful reply.

I've noticed that PowerPoint 2004 is extremely slow whenever opening
or
saving anything located on a network/remote volume. I have obvserved
this behavior on three separate computers.

When opening a PPT in PowerPoint 2004 from a network, PowerPoint just
sits there for a minute and then opens the file. If I double-click
several PPTs, the program sits for even longer before finally opening
a PPT.

If, however, I copy that exact same PPT file to my hard drive, the
file opens instantly. Put that same file back on the network and I
experience several minutes in delay to open.

I've used PowerPoint 2001 and X on this same network and never
experienced such problems. On my Windows machine, PowerPoint 2002 and
2003 never have this problem either.

Network issues are specific to your network and your network admin can
answer this for you. He may have some scanning security...or just a really
slow router or even worse...it may be a hub....

Hi,

It usually is a good practice to drag the files from the network to your
local hard drive, work on the files, and when done copy them back to the
network. File damage is much less likely when using a local copy rather than
a network copy. Networks can introduce errors.

Neither of those are a good solution because the older versions of
PowerPoint as well as Windows editions have absolutely no problem with
this.

Our network is top-class gigabit with no hubs.
