PPt 2007: Issues with lines

Attempting to scale a line while holding down the shift key to constrain the
scaling makes the line "explode" outside the slide frame border. I assume
this is a bug. Is there a work-around?

I know the following has come up in at least one other post, but I want to
include it here so everything can be dealt with together. A line can be laid
down while constraining to horizontal or vertical, but its points cannot be
edited. However, if "freeform" is used to lay out a line with editable
points, the "Shift" key does not constrain the points to horizontal or
vertical. In the end, a line with editable points must be "eye-balled" into
a horizontal or vertical position which, when displayed in slide show mode,
will still often show jaggies. This problem is compounded by the other
problem I posted earlier regarding zooming in. If I zoom in to work at
getting the line perfectly straight and, without thinking, hit "Enter", the
zoom jumps to focus on the slide center.

When laying down a line, the default is that the line is treated as a
connector. I understand there is a key that can be held down to over-ride
the line point jumping to an adjacent handle, and I seem to have been able to
do this in the past by holding down either the <Ctrl> or <Alt> keys, but
neither seem to be working now. But as I recall holding down that key did
not stop the attraction when trying to move a point in the vicinity of a
connector handle. But I may be "mis-remembering" that. My work-around has
been to nudge the line off the connector handle such that the point is
correctly positioned, and then go back to the other points and hope they are
not near a connector handle so they can be moved into position. What is the
correct way to over-ride the connector handles, and, better yet, is there a
way to turn that feature off?

Any feedback on any of these issues would be greatly appreciated.
