I am experiencing a problem with spellchecking out of PPT 2007, and I'd like
to know if it's universal, or just something going awry on my particular
system (XP SP2, Office SP1).
It will take a little setup to check, but nothing onerous, I promise:
1. Create a new presentation, and insert two blank slides. The contents of
the slides appears to be immaterial, so just leave them totally blank.
2. On the second slide, insert some speaker note text -- something that's
NOT in the default or any of your custom dictionaries. ("akdakjdakjhd" works
for me ...)
3. STARTING WITH THE FRIST SLIDE SELECTED, spell check. On my system,
here's what happens: The spellchecker will stop on the "bad" word in the
speaker notes on slide 2. However, the misspelled word will NOT be
highlighted. Furthermore, clicks on the Ignore button appear to have no
effect. If this happens, click "Close" to leave off spellchecking.
3. Now put the same misspelled word in the speaker notes on slide 1, and
again start spellchcking with that slide selected. Here, the spellchecker
will catch the word, it will be highlighted, and I can change or ignore it.
4. Still with the misspelled word in slide 2 speaker notes, start
spellchecking with slide 2 selected - in my case, this time the checker will
find the bum word, but it will now be highlighted , so that it can be changed
or successfully ignored.
Some questions:
Is this a common, or strictly local, problem?
Is there any way to tell PowerPoint not to bother spellchecking the speaker
notes?
Does this problem occur in PPT 2003?
Thanks.
