PPT 97 Preset animation problem

When I use preset animation it makes the text appear as
black text boxes on the slide.

Can anyone help with this?

First of all thanks for answering.

Geez, I am a dingbat. That was it...I updated about 18
months ago and I didn't think that would be the ticket but
I went to the latest NVidia driver from May 03 and...voila.
