PPT and XLS files disappearing

Im having problems with XP files disappering. For
PowerPoint, when someone saves once it is ok but on the
second save a msgbox pops up saying,

"The file cannot be saved right now because the file is
loaded by another user at the moment. You can wait a few
moments and try the save again, or you can cancel this
save and resave uning a a different file name." (Try
again, Cancel).

The file isnt being used by another person. When they
hit "Try again" it just keeps looping the same message.
But when the user hits "Cancel" it closes out the program
and brings up another msgbox of Powerpoint failing and
shutting down. After that the file and a temp file are
deleted and irrecoverable expect from tape backup. Ill
post system info in a bit.

I am having the same issue. When trying to save to a SNAP server some
of our users are getting the same "file cannot be saved right now"
error. However, a tmp file is saved (containing nothing). As in your
case, Powerpoint will then crash. This only happens when editing a
previously saved document....

Do you get a .tmp file saved in the directory you are trying to save
Powerpoint?
