File/Save or Ctrl+S is the usual method to save a presentation.

Or do you need it to open in show mode? In that case, File/Save As and
choose Presentation (*.PPS) from the "save as type) drop-down.

Or have I misunderstood the question?

I'm not sure what the Fn key combination is for a Compaq, but look for a
little LCD or projector-type icon on the F-keys on the laptop keyboard.

If you can't find it, you might check the owner's manual, or the Compaq
site. Or maybe give Compac customer service a call.

Or hopefully someone here will know what combination is likely. Which type
of Compaq laptop do you have? A Presario or something else?
